Binding & Finishing
We went back to a distant age to discover and reproduce in this book the treasures of the old area Sahel (corresponding to the states of Senegal, Mali, Mauritania and Niger) that was the subject of an important exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum, in New York.
The book has a fabric cover in hazel color that is at the same time simple and elegant. The dust-jacket highlights the image of a golden artifact, the leading artwork in the exhibition, with an extra glossy effect.
Our Pre-press Department has carefully checked the files. We printed the book and the cover with our Offset Led UV machine and we supervised the binding and finishing process.
We used hot golden foils to add a precious touch to the cover and we embellished the dust-jacket with a silkscreen and UV varnish.
For a more elegant effect, we opted for Gardapat Kiara paper of 135 g/m2 which is perfect to reproduce both texts and images. Gardapat paper, matt and velvety, is white natural, light and it’s as thick as other coated papers with a heavier grammage.
The book is bound with a round spine hardcover, to gently contain the artworks coming from old dynasties.
The exhibition catalogue Sahel: Art and Empires on the Shores of the Sahara is an adventure to discover magnificient and unkown civilizations. We have reproduced the beauty of gold necklaces and printed on paper what the archaeology disinterred during the centuries.
