Binding & Finishing
For the book published by Rizzoli in honour of the American fashion designer Tom Ford, we used printing techniques that were able to reproduce the elegance in the lines and in the textiles of Tom Ford’s masterpieces.
We printed an Extra White silkscreen on the black cover as well as on the black slipcase in order to accentuate the contrast between the two colors and highlight the name of the fashion designer. The cloth-bound hardcover was chosen to give the idea of a luxury and well-finished product.
We followed and supervised the production process step by step: the pre-press department received and checked the files, then we printed them by using our three Offset machines at 10 colors, we folded and gathered the sheets, we bound them and the have built the Slipcase by hand. On the back cover we made a blind blocking with an extra-large image glued by hand.
We have certainly used also an industrial process, very helpful for a big size book with many pages like this. For the cover we used specific coupler die-cutting.
We spent a lot of time and used our experience to realized a handmade slipcase in order to protect the book. A Slipcase must have the same size as the book that it has to contain and every millimeter is important to avoid that the book moves and damages its angles. At the same time the book must have enough space to be inserted and removed without problem. It’s a delicate production that needs attention and precision.
We used a coated paper of 200 g/m2 to add value to the texts and the beautiful images.. What we learned during the production of this project is that elegance depends on the balance of the various elements: the printing is a crucial element.
